This lesson extends the Origami paper folding activity with the addition of a colorful and artistic drawing upon the top of the box, as well as patterns drawn on each side. Colored pencils will be used to neatly and brightly add color to the artwork. Black fine point markers will be used to outline the artwork and enhance the details of the drawing. Origami, Form, Pattern, Color Intensity, and Functional Art are the artistic terms that will be defined and utilized throughout the development of this lesson. The end result will be a beautiful and decorative hand-crafted box that can be given to someone special or simply used as a display piece perfect for containing paperclips, safety pins, wrapped candy, jewelry, coins, etc. A detailed lesson plan is included which outlines National Core Visual Arts Standards, Lesson Objectives, Vocabulary with definitions, a Material List, as well as a detailed Teaching Procedure for three instructional days. The PDF slides are quite inclusive and detail vocabulary, definitions, instructions, and clear photos that show the progression of the lesson step-by-step. Two EXIT Slips and a Project Reflection handout have been included to allow the students the opportunity to review their artistic experience as well as the vocabulary introduced throughout the lesson. Preparing for this lesson will be quite easy. Print enough copies of the student handouts and organize the art supplies needed for each day. (The material list includes basic art supplies such as lightweight white art paper, construction paper, pencils, erasers, rulers, scissors, black fine point markers, and colored pencils.) Project the PDF slides during class time and use the information on the slides to guide the students through each step of the lesson. NOTE: This PDF presentation is non-editable.
